"But $18,000 in spending?!"

You do NOT need to unlock all 3 tiers

This bonus is built in 3 separate parts. Each one you unlock is yours to keep — so you can aim for the level that fits your real spending (no all-or-nothing pressure).

Tier 1 · The accessible one Spend $5,000 in a maximum of 110 days

20,000 bonus pts + ≈ 10,000 earned = ≈ $450 in value

Tier 2 · Keep going Spend $4,000 more $9,000 total, in a maximum of 180 days

+20,000 bonus pts + earn = ≈ $870 total

Tier 3 · The full bonus Spend $9,000 more $18,000 total, in a maximum of 365 days

+30,000 bonus pts + earn = ≈ $1,590 total

The math for normal people (and especially couples)

$18,000 in 12 months is $1,500/month — groceries, gas, restaurants, bills, that hotel you were booking anyway. For a 2-person household, it's $750/month each by simply putting ALL spending on one card.

Full transparency

The catches (yes, we tell you those too)

No card is perfect. Here's what to know BEFORE you apply, cheerfully disclosed as always:

Step by step, concretely

Exactly how it works, from application to free flights

  1. Apply via the BMO secure link

Takes a few minutes. You need a minimum income of $80,000 (personal) OR $150,000 (household), and a Good or Excellent credit score.

  2. Put your regular spending on the card

Spend $5,000 within 110 days to unlock the 1st part of the bonus (20,000 pts). Then $4,000 more within 180 days for part 2, and $9,000 more within 365 days for the full 70,000 pts.

  3. Create your VIPorter account

A few clicks. Your points land there, and they never expire as long as you have the card.

  4. Redeem on the Porter website for ≈ $1,590 in flights

Pick ANY flight on Porter (or specific Air Transat flights) and apply your points like a discount. That's it — simple points, remember?

Before you apply, grab Flytrippers' free new-card checklist — it includes very important mistakes to avoid. (It opens in a separate tab so you don't lose this page.)

Good questions

Things planners ask before applying

Am I eligible for the welcome bonus?

You must not have already had this specific card — and since it's brand new, almost everyone is eligible. Card eligibility: minimum income of $80,000 personal OR $150,000 household, age of majority in your province, and an estimated Good or Excellent credit score (BMO checks Equifax Canada).

What are VIPorter points actually worth?

Our Flytrippers Valuation is ≈ 1.5¢ per point. They're points of the more simple type: the amount needed is mostly tied to the cash price of the flight, so the value doesn't vary much — and ALL Porter seats are available. For example: 25,000 pts ≈ a $375 discount, 50,000 pts ≈ $750, and your full 106,000 pts ≈ $1,590.

What if I don't fly Porter that often?

Points never expire as long as you have the card, so you can bank them for the right trip. You can also redeem on specific Air Transat flights (with more partners coming soon). And even without the card, keeping points alive is easy: just fly or redeem once per 24 months, or hold the basic-level VIPorter card.

Can my partner and I combine points?

You can pool points with additional ("joint") cards on the same account ($75/year each), and across your own separate cards that earn VIPorter points. You can't pool with travel companions directly — but you can always book flights for whomever you want with your points anyway.

Why would I pay a $199 annual fee (after year 1)?

The fee is $0 the 1st year, and the welcome bonus alone is worth ≈ $1,590 — about 8 years of fees. Savvy travelers don't avoid annual fees; they make sure the math beats the fee. Here, it does, by a lot. (And you can always reassess at renewal.)
