Getting a 2-for-1 pass for plane tickets seems too good to be true, but this really does exist! It’s an excellent example of how useful it is to know pro tricks like that. You can bring someone along on your adventures! And until tonight only, you can get this 2-for-1 pass for 2 whole months by buying just 1 single cheap roundtrip ticket!!!
Here at Flytrippers, we’re experts at flying for less. And this is one of our favorite tips for those who live in a city served by Southwest Airlines. This BOGO (buy one, get one) pass for flights is a fantastic deal.
Here’s everything you need to know about the Southwest Companion Pass promotion.
What is the Southwest Companion Pass?
Southwest is one of the largest airlines in the United States, operating a fleet of 800+ aircraft.

Their Companion Pass is really as simple as it sounds: With a Southwest Companion Pass, when you buy a plane ticket, you get to bring someone along for 0 USD.
Well, Southwest charges you 0 USD. Governments always want their cut, so you do have to pay about 6 USD in taxes per one-way ticket to quench their never-ending thirst for your money.
But that’s it!!!
It’s a 2-for-1 ticket for flights!!! It’s valid for an unlimited number of flights. And it works for any seat on any Southwest flight.
Here’s a concrete example:
- You buy a 200 USD roundtrip ticket on Southwest Airlines
- You get to bring a guest for 12 USD roundtrip in taxes
- You end up paying the equivalent of just 106 USD total per person
The Southwest Companion Pass also works if you pay for your flight in points. It’s easy to earn tens of thousands of points with welcome bonuses on the great Southwest credit cards, but I’d certainly recommend waiting before getting those (there are much better deals right now anyway).
Why wait? Because those cards are the best way to get the full Companion Pass valid for almost 2 full years if you time it well, which I’ll explain below.
And in the meantime, with this deal, you can trial the pass easily, and you’ll get 2 months of BOGO flights.
Yes, there are also sometimes opportunities to earn a promotional Companion Pass. That’s the great deal until tonight.
What is the promotional Southwest Companion Pass?

How to get the promotional Southwest Companion Pass for less?
Of course, the best way to save is if you already had a trip to book for this summer and you just fly Southwest to get there. You’d get your Companion Pass essentially for free (or almost free, if Southwest is a bit more expensive than a competitor for your specific dates and flight).
But if you want to earn the Companion Pass at the lowest price, it’s good to know the easy way to spot the cheapest dates and destinations.
You can then choose to do this as a mileage run or make a fun trip out of it (which is our recommendation).
A mileage run is when you fly just for the rewards or status, without visiting. The reward in this case is the Companion Pass. That way, you don’t have to pay for hotels either, which is the worst expense of a trip in a crazy-expensive country like the U.S.!
If you want to make a trip out of it, you’ll also need to take into account the price of accommodations in the different destinations. I won’t delve too deeply into that here, but always use an aggregator like Trivago to compare prices and use the filters to compare the many options.
But plane ticket prices vary a lot, so it’s vital to know some basic tips.
How to find the cheapest flight for the promotional Southwest Companion Pass?
Here’s how to spot the cheapest Southwest flights:
- Go to Google Flights*
- Enter your home airport
- Enter “Nashville” as your destination
- Enter random dates this summer
- Click on “Search”
You might not want to go to Nashville, that’s besides the point. This is a pro trick to be able filter results by airline and then see the cheapest destinations. If you start with an open-ended destination-less search, the airline filter does not appear.
Click on the “Airlines” option, unclick “select all airlines”, and click on “Southwest”.

Now you can go replace “Nashville” by “Anywhere” to see all options.

You’ve locked in the Southwest filter. But you still have random dates.
So:
- Click on the departure date
- Click on the “Flexible dates” tab at the top
- Click on “July” or “August”
- Click on either “Weekend”, “1 week”, or “2 weeks”
- Click on “Done”
We usually prefer the Kiwi search tool for this because you can do more than one month at a time and select more precise trip durations (like with all our links, save our Kiwi link to support us at no cost instead of going directly to their site). But Kiwi doesn’t have airline filters because that’s rarely needed.

And voilà!
You now see the cheapest prices, on Southwest only, for all destinations. Very conveniently displayed on a map.

Last tip: To make the view less crowded and highlight the cheapest flights, add another filter for price.
That way, you can see only what’s under $300 roundtrip, for example.

And you can also filter for nonstop flights only, if you care about that.
How to get the full Southwest Companion Pass?
You can earn the Southwest Companion Pass for the rest of 2025 and all of 2026 by earning 135,000 Southwest points in 2025.
The easiest way to do this is by getting a personal Southwest credit card and a business Southwest credit card.
The welcome bonuses alone will help you hit the required 135,000 (and the requirement is actually lowered to 125,000 points for cardholders).
But here’s a pro tip: If you apply for the cards in December instead, you can time it to unlock the welcome bonuses in early January.
That way, you’ll get the Companion Pass for all of 2026 AND 2027! That’s nearly 2 complete years of 2-for-1 plane tickets!
Until then, there are great travel rewards deals you can take advantage of now in the meantime, including to get $2000+ in value!
