I can be very uncompromising, and sometimes I’m too intense (comes with my ADHD), and I know it (sorry). But not about this!!! These are just dumb behaviors, period. There are so many people out there who don’t know how to behave in airports, who don’t follow very basic etiquette rules. But actually, it’s true everywhere… it’s just that in airports, we notice it more.
Personally, I give people the benefit of the doubt, and I want to believe most people don’t have any bad intentions at all… maybe they genuinely don’t know what they’re doing is dumb. That’s entirely possible! We can’t know if nobody tells us. Denver Airport summed up 4 pretty simple rules in a funny video, and they’re good basics.

These are rules that should honestly be plain common sense, but hey. Either way… what matters is that you stop doing it if you were doing it. Everyone will be happy. Being someone who travels a lot, it frustrates me even more, I think.
I’ll list them out in written format below.

Note that it’s quite ironic that these basic etiquette rules are shared by the airport that’s targeted by the craziest conspiracy theories; the Illuminati have their headquarters there, reptilians live in secret tunnels, the runways form a swastika, the giant blue horse statue with demonic eyes (which fell on its sculptor and killed him) summons the apocalypse, etc.
I’m actually going there in October for a concert; I’ll talk about the conspiracy theories again in an article for those who are interested then.
The 4 airport etiquette rules
These are indeed 4 of the most important rules. They’re probably the most frequent dumb behaviors. But I’d personally add a few others.

It boils down to: just think of others! That’s the best philosophy to have in life: everyone should do whatever they want… as long as it doesn’t affect others. Simple.
1. No sound coming out of your devices
Put on headphones or mute it. Doesn’t matter what sound, doesn’t matter what device. No one should have to hear your conversations, your terrible music, your videos, the noises from your pointless games, etc.
The basics of good manners in public, honestly. By far the behavior I personally hate the most.
We already talked about this when United Airlines announced that they were going to eject and ban offenders (kudos to them).
Flytrippers recommends Bose headphones: I love the QuietComfort (one of the few expensive items I think are actually worth it), and Kevin, Flytrippers’ other co-founder, likes the small earbud version. But grab any headphones at the very least!!!
2. Stand on the right if you’re not walking
Moving walkways are designed to let 2 people pass at the same time. If you don’t want to walk and you’d rather just stand there, that’s fine… but move over to the right. Move your suitcase or bag in front of or behind you too.
Same principle for people who drive 115 km/h in the left lane on the highway… but hey, let’s focus on airports! One hard battle at a time! 😂
3. Don’t stop in the middle of the way
It’s honestly quite fascinating how many people stand right in the middle of walkways. They’re walking… and suddenly they stop dead center without moving aside.
You’re not in a rush, you’ve got something to look at or do, no problem… but can you just move over a little at least? Thanks!!!
4. Watch where you’re going
There’s always exciting content on our phones; I’m the first to love that. Of course.
But if you’re not able to avoid colliding with people, focus on the task of walking only.
