I was interviewed by CBC as an expert on the highly divisive topic of airline fees. Many travelers dislike them (a normal reflex), but fail to appreciate that it is precisely this market segmentation that has made flying literally cheaper than ever before in history (relative to the cost of living, of course). Yes, Air Canada announced a new $30 fee… but only for those who book over the phone.
My biggest surprise was that people still make bookings over the phone as if this was 2002… kidding aside, I get why some are mad and this time there are at least reasonable arguments to be made (unlike with most other optional fees).
But as someone who doesn’t waste an employee’s expensive time to book flights over the phone, I’m glad not to pay for other people’s choice in the cost of my tickets. Flytrippers aims to help you travel for less through our 3 types of content, namely flight deals, travel rewards, and tips/inspiration/news.
