Today, Flytrippers is launching a highly requested new feature that will help you easily know exactly how many points of the more simple type you need for any flight! Including (and ESPECIALLY) for all the many flight deals that are cheap in cash that we spot every day for over 8 years (and it’s calculated automatically).
No, this is certainly not as interesting as new deals in points of the more lucrative type. Stay tuned for that very soon; it’s the 2nd new feature we’re going to announce (sign up for our free newsletter specifically about travel rewards to receive that first).
But this new simple points price calculator feature instantly gives you the required amount depending on the simple rewards currencies you have or want to get.
Here are the details of the price in simple points for flights, which you’ll certainly notice on all the deals on our homepage!
Why we’re launching this feature
The dozens of flight deals in cash that we spot every day are the most well-known of our 3 types of content (and of our 3 ways to help you travel for less). It’s great to save a few hundred dollars multiple times per year.
But the 2nd type of content, travel rewards, is so infinitely more important if you really want to save!!! It’s phenomenal to get literally $1000 easily every year… or even thousands of dollars easily if you want to travel in luxury.
Travel rewards are by far the best way to make your trips more affordable especially, but also more enjoyable. It’s not even comparable.

So, we want to help you easily see the number of simple points required for a flight and help you understand the important difference between the 2 types of rewards that exist!!!
For 2 reasons:
- So you can know how to redeem simple points
- Many people don’t want to do research
- It gives you the price handed to you easily
- So you can realize how lucrative points are better
- 60,000 points for a $600 flight to Europe with a good deal
- 60,000 points for a one-way $2000+ business class flight to Europe
This is part of our priority for the 2nd part of 2025: more simple and clear content to help you properly redeem points.
You’ll actually see that this week for the deal YOU ABSOLUTELY SHOULD NOT MISS on Marriott hotel points, which ends August 18th. The offer of the year!!! You can get points for flights after!
How to use the new feature
At the center of this new feature today, there’s our new page that automatically calculates how many travel rewards you need for any flight.

You can access it in 2 different ways:
- Directly (you have to enter the desired flight price manually)
- From our deals (the flight price will be entered automatically)
This is very basic, but there are always only 2 variables to know how many simple points you need:
- The points currency
- The flight price
So, regardless of which of the 2 ways you arrive from, you’ll also have to select your points currency in a dropdown menu.
Actually, the 1st step is to say if you already have points (I hope so) or if you need points (you should always get more, actually).

If you already have points
You choose the points currency, and then you indicate the price (it will already be filled if you arrive from one of our deals; I’ll show you that below), and you click on “Calculate!”

The number of points required will appear.
(In the example, these are Scene+ points, which are the simple points that are the easiest to get right now: 87,500 points by unlocking the record-high increased welcome bonus on the Scotiabank Gold Card!)

If you choose points of the more lucrative type in the dropdown menu, like Amex points, which are worth 100%+ more if you redeem them for flights in luxurious lie-flat business class pod seats, you’ll instead get a warning telling you NOT to redeem them for a deal!!!
(Even in economy class, transferable Amex and RBC Avion points are worth 50% more by not redeeming them for deals!!!)

That’s why in the intro I told you that this new feature is ESPECIALLY interesting for good deals in cash, because it’s for simple points: if you’ve understood the most basic of the basics, it’s that points of the more lucrative type should never be redeemed for flights that have a low price in cash (so never for deals).
But simple points have a fixed or relatively fixed value, so they’re perfect for deals that are cheap in cash.
So this new feature is really for points of the more simple type only! It’s absolutely vital to understand the major distinction, especially if you want to finally learn to get the best deals (those with points of the more lucrative type)!
I remind you that 2 types of rewards exist:
- Of the more lucrative type
- Of the more simple type
Rewards of the more lucrative type are the best, because they’re worth more. They make you save more. But it’s more complex and it’s a completely separate pricing and booking system; the price in points IS NOT linked to the price in cash.
Rewards of the more simple type are obviously much less complex. They give you more flexibility. But you can never get outsized value or higher value; the price in points IS linked to the price in cash.
If you want more points
Regardless of how many points you have, you should literally always get more points!!! It’s the most important thing in this wonderful world.
So if you select the “I need points” option, you’ll see the best current offers and how many points they give you for the particular flight you’re looking for.

As a reminder, we already have:
- A ranking of the best credit cards
- With lots of subcategories
- A new page that lists just the best offers specifically
- With a bit more detail on each one
But this new feature is another way to help you choose, even though a basic thing is to not wait until you need a specific flight before getting points (always get them in advance).
That’s why in the introduction I said “depending on the currencies you have”, because the most beginner thing possible is to have just one type of points!!! Like any personal finance strategy, diversification is key!
How to access the new feature directly
You can always access our new simple points required for flights calculator page directly.
By the way, the 3rd new feature we’re going to announce will be the main menu redesign, which has actually already started but isn’t finished. We’ve added this new page to it, under the new “Travel rewards” tab.

How to access the new feature from our flight deals
The most visible part of this new feature is on our homepage and on our flight deal pages.
Another basic thing to know is that all points currencies have a different value obviously, because they’re different currencies.
So, to simplify and lighten, we put the most common value of 1¢ per point. You can easily click to get to the new calculator tool to check with your currency, and the flight price will be pre-filled.
It will also help you notice at a glance how points of the more lucrative type are so much better 😉
That will especially show soon with the brand new section with deals in lucrative points.
But when you see that 60,000 simple points give you a $600 roundtrip flight to Europe, it makes you realize how it’s a good deal to pay the guaranteed fixed price of 60,000 Aeroplan/Amex points for a one-way to Germany in a luxurious lie-flat business class pod seat worth $2000+, like I did in May!!!
Getting $2000 is a much better deal than getting $600, isn’t it?

Let’s quickly look at what changed concretely in both spots.
Prices in simple points on the Flytrippers homepage
You now see the price in points of the more simple type next to the price in cash.
It’s on the best deal of the day, which is always at the very top of the page.

It’s on each of the top 4 best deals of the day, which is also quite high on the page.

And it’s of course on every deal in the section with the list of all the many deals of the day.

Prices in simple points on individual pages for each flight deal
You now see the price in points of the more simple type if you click on any deal, as you surely do regularly if you’re a savvy traveler who invests time to find cheaper flights.
It’s displayed in the deal’s dates list, at the end of each available month.

But most importantly, like the blue “Details” button already takes you to the details of the normal deal in cash, the new black “Learn more” button takes you to the new calculator for the price in simple points.
The price of the deal you arrive from is already entered in the calculator when you do that!
