There’s a basic tip to know and to illustrate it, I’ll use the really great deal for transatlantic flights from Athens (Greece) to New York City (USA) currently available. Prices this low aren’t even all that uncommon thanks to this ultra low-cost carrier (ULCC).

There are currently flights from Greece to NYC for €97 one-way for most of June!
It can be useful if you or someone you know wants to cross the ocean (NYC-Ottawa flights are often $150), but MOST IMPORTANTLY to remind you how much cheaper flights are outside of Canada.
So if flights to Greece (or anywhere else) are expensive from your city, it’s worth at least comparing prices from alternative airports! Especially if you’re not traveling solo! The costs incurred (like a hotel in NYC) are DIVIDED by 2, 3, or more… but the savings on the tickets (often $500) are MULTIPLIED by 2, 3, or more!
Worst case, it costs you 2 minutes to compare for nothing. Best case, you find $1000 in savings.
