Congratulations to all those who took advantage of the highest offer ever seen for simple points! That TD offer just ended, and what’s replacing it is the highest offer ever seen for Aeroplan points (which can be so valuable). Even better, there are also new American Express offers, including increased bonuses to get many Marriott points (12 hotel nights completely free for ALL).
We’ll have a lot more content on all this very soon, including:
- Our monthly live video of the best travel rewards deals (Wednesday, June 7)
- Our free webinar on the Aeroplan program (June 20)
- Our free webinar on the Marriott program (date to be determined)
- Many more videos and articles
- Sign up for our free newsletter on travel rewards to make sure you don’t miss a thing (25,000+ subscribers)
But here’s at least an overview of the new TD and American Express offers for summer 2023!
Basics of travel rewards
If you’re already one of our savvy Flytrippers readers who’ve earned over $2 million in free travel with the travel rewards welcome bonuses we’ve shared, you can skip this section.
Otherwise, I’ll remind you of the basics. Because it’s important! And because the world of travel rewards is an overly intimidating, unfamiliar, and counterintuitive one.
(When you just don’t know about it, it’s obviously totally normal to believe all the myths that are untrue, to not understand how it really works, and to be a bit baffled… but now you will know!)
Welcome bonuses are the key! If you remember just ONE thing, make it this.
The TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card gives you an ≈ $941 welcome bonus and the Marriott Bonvoy American Express Card gives you 12 free hotel nights… imagine how insane the amount you have to spend at an earn rate of 1% or 2% is just to reach the same rewards as those welcome bonuses!
And more importantly, having more cards is going to give you a better credit score (in addition to giving you lots of free travel), contrary to the very common (and very false) myth.
But it’s only true if you follow the 3 rules:
- Pay EVERYTHING on time always (in full, no exceptions)
- Keep your OLD cards open (the old ones; not your new ones)
- Space out your application days by AT LEAST 2 months (3 is even better)
I’ve been earning multiple welcome bonuses every year for the past 15 years and have a credit score in the 800s (and have earned over $25,000 in free travel), because I’ve followed these 3 simple rules and because I understand that welcome bonuses are the key (as has everyone else who earns a lot of travel rewards)!
You can check out our brand-new one-page summary for travel rewards with lots of info for beginners, and sign up for our free travel rewards newsletter to get all the details about every aspect in that teaser.
And finally, we’ll soon be doing another edition of our popular free webinar on travel rewards basics if you want to learn more (and you really should!).
Basics of card resource pages
Before telling you about the new offers, since we receive 100+ questions every week that can already be answered easily on our website, I want to remind you that you can always see all of the best current offers on our ranking of the best credit cards in Canada.
And most importantly, you can click on the blue “SEE MORE” button to go to our resource page, to get all the information about the card while waiting for our detailed reviews (text and video).
There are lots of tabs you can open, with almost EVERYTHING you could possibly want to know about the cards.

They end September 5. If you’re due for a bonus, don’t wait of course. That’s the key to maximizing: taking action. But even if you’re not due for a new welcome bonus right away, you have plenty of time to come back and take advantage of it, but take into account the Amex offers below too (which end sooner).
Ideally, if you want to maximize, it’s best to take the time to devise a strategy for your travel rewards… but also to be flexible enough to adjust according to current offers.
For example, if you got the TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite Card in May, you’ll be able to take advantage of the Marriott Bonvoy American Express Card in July and respect the 2-month spacing out, or the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card between now and September 5.
That will give you 2 of the best offers ever! A great combination! And as we told you, of all the banks, the TD application process is the least efficient, but it’s better once you’ve gotten your first TD product and they know you.
Here’s an introduction to the new TD offers for summer 2023.
TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card
The TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card gives you Aeroplan points that are more valuable.
Overview of the new offer
The TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card offer that just ended was the highest offer ever seen on this card… and the new one is even higher, surprisingly! It’s rare for a card to have 2 record-high offers in a row!
In fact, it even equals the highest offer ever seen for Aeroplan points*!!!! It’s crazy! It’s as much as last summer’s crazy offer on the American Express Aeroplan Card that many of you got.
(*Excluding premium cards that have annual fees of $599 and up, like the Aeroplan cards below that give unlimited access to Air Canada Maple Leaf airport lounges! By the way, our lounge guide is coming soon!)
Don’t forget that there’s a special rule for Aeroplan card welcome bonuses that prevents you from getting 2 welcome bonuses on Aeroplan cards of the same level within a short period of time (≈ 18 months). So you can’t get this one if you got the American Express Aeroplan Card. If you got the American Express Aeroplan Reserve Card, then you can get this one right away because it’s a different level (the cards’ colors and fees indicate the level; more detailed article to come).
By the way, a note for those who got the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card before the end of May. As we’ve already mentioned, since we often have exclusive offers that are even higher than if you go directly to the bank’s website (and obviously better than going to a branch, we never recommend doing that), Flytrippers sometimes knows about upcoming offers a little in advance, but without being able to reveal them of course.
(Just to be clear, this isn’t the case with TD at the moment — but it is with the National Bank World Elite Mastercard and the CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite Card and CIBC Aventura Visa Gold Card, just to give a few examples among the 15 cards currently giving $500+; it’s a record number, and it’s the best time to start. The TD offers are the same as on their site, but you can support us for free by using our links. It’s either more or the same with our links, but never less!)
So we couldn’t tell you to wait for the new offer, but you can read between the lines a bit. For example, we did focus on the TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite Card exclusively when we reminded you that the offers were coming to an end!
Still, it’s a fairly small difference, so it’s not the end of the world!
TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card welcome bonus
The TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card gives you close to $1,000 in net value, and that’s on top of a $100 credit towards your NEXUS membership (to avoid long lines), free checked bags for you and 8 other passengers (when you travel on Air Canada only), and insurance for your flights (including flights booked with Aeroplan points).
With the full bonus, you’ll have 81,250 Aeroplan points! That’s worth ≈ $1219 for specific flights (or even more, since these are more valuable points with unlimited value)!
It’s an incredible welcome bonus! It’s in separate parts though, so you can have just 57,500 points quickly and then 23,750 points with the very profitable renewal bonus, hence the Flytrippers Valuation of ≈ $941 (that’s your net profit, fees are obviously always deducted if there are any).
The $139 fee is no longer waived the 1st year unlike the offer that just ended (≈ $855 with 1st year free), but it’s still a better deal!!!! If you know how to count (or rather, if you take the time to count rationally).
Getting ≈ $941 in net value is better than having ≈ $855. In everything but travel rewards, it’s good and normal reflex to want to avoid fees. But as mentioned in our brand-new one-page summary infographic on becoming a travel rewards pro, it’s a very counterintuitive world.
If you don’t understand that paying $139 to get that much free travel is an incredible deal, you’re really never going to be able to get very good at travel rewards unfortunately (not until you understand and take the time to count properly rationally). It’s unfortunate, but that’s how it is. Especially unfortunate for you, because you’re depriving yourself of huge bonuses.
Aeroplan points have literally unlimited value, and are the most valuable and lucrative of all points. You can read our summary of the 2 types of rewards redemptions, more valuable or more simple.
Rather than being worth $1219 like our Flytrippers Valuation, you can redeem them for a one-way flight in business class to Asia that’s literally worth $3,000! I’m using this extreme example just to illustrate that that’s the potential of more valuable points.
Aeroplan points can be redeemed on Aeroplan’s 40+ partner airlines at a guaranteed fixed price (regardless of the price in cash), but available seats are limited. It’s enough for 13 one-way short-distance reward flights, for example!
If you want something simpler, Aeroplan points can be redeemed for any seat on Air Canada, often at a lower value because the price is not fixed and not guaranteed. The Flytrippers Valuation of the welcome bonus is still ≈ $616 even the simple way.
It’s still the best Aeroplan offer ever, but if you want things to be simple, take the time to compare well with the next card which is actually maybe better for those who want it more simple instead of more valuable.
You can read 18 good uses of Aeroplan points and the basics of the Aeroplan program while waiting for our long-awaited ultimate guide that will first be sent to those who sign up for our free webinar on the Aeroplan program.
How to take advantage of the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card deal
You have to spend $5,000 over 6 months (the equivalent of $192 a week) to unlock the main bonus.
So it sounds like a lot, but it’s very doable for just about anyone. Especially over 6 months (it’s often 3 months), because in half a year, you’re bound to have a big expense come up to help you reach the amount. If not, use our 5 tips to reach the minimum spending requirement.
Then you have to spend another $2,500 in the 1st year and renew the card for the renewal bonus which will give you 23,750 points (≈ $356). If you don’t want to, the Flytrippers Valuation of the offer drops to ≈ $724 (deducting the ≈ $356 renewal bonus and the $139 2nd year fee).
If you’re going to use that $2,500 to unlock another big welcome bonus, it might make sense not to renew. But if you’re not going to use that $2,500 to unlock an extra welcome bonus, you’re much better off renewing, getting an extra $217 in net value and keeping the benefits of the card for another year!
Here’s how the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card welcome bonus is structured:
- 10,000 pts: bonus after 1st purchase (≈ $150)
- 40,000 pts: bonus after spending $5,000 in 6 months (≈ $600)
- 7,500 pts: earn on these expenses at the estimated rate (≈ $113)
- 20,000 pts: bonus after spending another $2,500 in 12 months and renewing (≈ $300)
- 3,750 pts: earn on these expenses at the estimated rate (≈ $56)

TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite Card
The TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite Card gives you TD Rewards points that are more simple.
Overview of the new offer
The TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite Card offer that just ended was the highest offer ever seen in Canada for simple points… and the new offer is lower, but it’s still the 2nd best offer ever seen for simple points!
It’s quite possible that we’ll never see a bonus as high as the last one again (it was really that good), so if you want simple points, it’s still an excellent deal.
(Especially since in 12 months’ time, based on TD rules, if an increased offer ever comes back, you’ll be able to take advantage of it again — it’s not like with the Amex cards below!)
TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite Card welcome bonus
You really can’t get any simpler than the TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite Card: $650 in simple points that can be used for almost any travel, and the first year is free. So $650 in net value.
All you have to do is redeem the points via the Expedia for TD platform, which has just about every travel option available. Simple.
If you want, you can also use the points for travel booked anywhere. As is often the case, your points will be worth less (everything in life is either more simple or more valuable). That’ll give you $520, which is still by far the best deal for simple points.
How to take advantage of the TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite Card deal
You have to spend $5,000 over 6 months (the equivalent of $192 a week) to unlock the main bonus.
So it sounds like a lot, but it’s very doable for just about anyone. Especially over 6 months (it’s often 3 months), because in half a year, you’re bound to have a big expense come up to help you reach the amount. Otherwise, use our 5 tips to reach the minimum spending requirements.
Here’s how the TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite Card welcome bonus is structured:
- 20,000 pts: bonus after 1st purchase ($100)
- 80,000 pts: bonus after spending $5,000 in 6 months ($400)
- 30,000 pts: earn on these expenses at the estimated rate ($150)

New American Express offers
The new American Express offers were launched earlier in May, and although we had of course added them to our ranking of the best credit cards in Canada, we hadn’t talked too much about them.
(Why? It was really more savvy to take advantage of TD’s record offer and then get Amex’s increased offers just before July 24 if you wanted to be strategic and maximize — while respecting the minimum interval of 2 months between request days!)
Here is a table summarizing the 4 new American Express offers.

Here’s an introduction to the new American Express offers for summer 2023.
Marriott Bonvoy American Express Card
The Marriott Bonvoy Amex Card gives you Marriott points that are more valuable.
Overview of the new offer
If you’re one of the savvy travelers who already have the Marriott Bonvoy Amex Card, you can get the next one!
This is the ONLY card in Canada that ALL travelers should have, without exception. In fact, it makes no sense to be a traveler and not have this card. The welcome bonus is great, and so is the annual certificate every year thereafter.
And now the welcome bonus has finally been increased! Usually it’s only increased once a year, so it’s really time to get it!
Marriott Bonvoy Amex Card welcome bonus
The new Marriott Bonvoy Amex Card welcome bonus will give you 81,000 Marriott points (in addition to the extremely valuable annual free night certificate you’ll get every year after)!
The bonus gives you 12 completely free nights in beautiful hotels in Bali, for example. If your travel buddy takes advantage of the deal too, that gives you 26 free nights (yes, not just 24)! It’s just crazy!!!
Flytrippers’ other co-founder Kevin has just gone to test the hotels in question in Bali for you, so don’t miss the detailed reviews soon! But spoiler alert: it’s an even better deal considering how gorgeous the hotels are!
This number of nights is obviously just for certain specific destinations, and it’s worth planning trips around them for such a good deal (it’s so easy to travel for less: just be FLEXIBLE about everything).
But if you want even more hotel choices, you can get 8 nights free in 50+ countries, which is still pretty awesome!
And if you want to make it even simpler, you can of course use them for any of the 8,000+ Marriott hotels worldwide. Like everything in life, since it’s simpler, it’s less valuable in terms of the number of free nights. But it gives you ≈ $729 off quite easily. Still excellent!
Marriott points are more valuable, and their value potential is virtually unlimited. You can read (or watch a video) on our basics of the 2 types of reward use.
And unlike airline points, rooms are not limited (points can be used for any basic room that is available with cash) and nights are completely free (no taxes to pay). Apart from very very very few exceptions out of the 8,000+ hotels.
Don’t miss our ultimate guide to the Marriott Bonvoy program soon.
How to take advantage of the Marriott Bonvoy Amex Card deal
You have to spend $3,000 over 3 months (the equivalent of $231 per week) to unlock the main bonus.
So it’s a little higher than usual, but very doable with our 5 tips to reach the minimum spending requirements. It’s worth the extra effort for such a big bonus.
Then you have to renew the card, but the Marriott Bonvoy Amex Card and the Marriott Bonvoy Business Amex Card are the only 2 that EVERYONE should always keep anyway, to get an annual certificate worth ≈ $315.
Here’s the Marriott Bonvoy Amex Card welcome bonus structure:
- 65,000 pts: bonus after spending $3,000 in 3 months (≈ $585)
- 6,000 pts: earn on these expenses at base earn rate (≈ $54)
- 10,000 pts: bonus after renewing as you should anyway (≈ $90)
More info on the Marriott Bonvoy Amex Card
You can read our Marriott Bonvoy Amex Card resource page while you wait for our detailed text and video review and our free 30-page guide about the card (sign up for our free newsletter specific to travel rewards to receive them first).
Marriott Bonvoy Business American Express Card
The Marriott Bonvoy Business Amex Card gives you Marriott points that are more valuable.
Overview of the new offer
You don’t need to have a business to get Amex “business” cards (but you have to read that to know what to write, since the actual application is a bit different than for a normal personal card, even though the cards work exactly the same).
As mentioned, lots of savvy travelers already have the regular personal version (and everyone should keep it for the awesome annual certificate), so if that’s your case, it’s time to get this one! It’ll give you even more awesome Marriott points AND another awesome annual certificate!
But also, the offer on the Marriott Bonvoy Business Amex Card is the highest of the 2. So even if you don’t yet have the personal version (the Marriott Bonvoy Amex Card), you can choose this one if you can reach the slightly higher minimum spending amount.
Marriott Bonvoy Business Amex Card welcome bonus
The new Marriott Bonvoy Business Amex Card welcome bonus will give you 95,000 Marriott points!
That gives you 15 nights completely free in beautiful hotels in Bali, for example. If your travel buddy takes advantage of the deal too, that gives you 31 free nights! It’s just crazy!!!
You can go back to read the previous card for all the info about the points, I won’t repeat them here.
How to take advantage of the Marriott Bonvoy Business Amex Card deal
You have to spend $5,000 over 3 months (the equivalent of $385 a week) to unlock the main bonus.
It’s higher than usual (and higher than the personal version). Our 5 tips for meeting minimum spending requirements can help. It’s worth the extra effort for such a big bonus.
Then you have to renew the card, but the Marriott Bonvoy Business Amex Card and the Marriott Bonvoy Amex Card are the only 2 that EVERYONE should always keep anyway, to have an annual certificate worth ≈ $315.
Here’s the welcome bonus structure for the Marriott Bonvoy Business Amex Card:
- 75,000 pts: bonus after spending $5,000 in 3 months (≈ $675)
- 10,000 pts: earn on these expenses at basics (≈ $90)
- 10,000 pts: bonus after renewing as you should anyway (≈ $90)

You can read our Marriott Bonvoy Business Amex Card resource page while you wait for our detailed text and video review and our free 30-page guide about the card (sign up for our free newsletter specific to travel rewards to receive them first).
American Express Aeroplan Reserve Card
The Amex Aeroplan Reserve Card gives you Aeroplan points that are more valuable.
Overview of the new offer
The Amex Aeroplan Reserve Card is a premium card that gives you unlimited access to Air Canada Maple Leaf lounges in airports, but with one more restriction than all the other cards in Canada that offer free lounge access: you have to fly on Air Canada or a Star Alliance partner to get access.
The offer has decreased slightly for those who don’t want to renew such an expensive card or who don’t want to spend more, but if you really want a premium Aeroplan card, it’s the only one that’s accessible to all income levels (along with the next one, its business version).
(The TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege Card and the CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege Card are similar but require an annual income of $150,000 for an individual or $200,000 for a household!)
Amex Aeroplan Reserve Card welcome bonus
The new Amex Aeroplan Reserve Card welcome bonus will give you 75,000 Aeroplan points just with the main part (if you spread the required spending evenly over the 3 months), that’s what’s included in our Flytrippers Valuation.
You can get 130,000 total points by spending more and renewing, but these 2 components are not included in our Flytrippers Valuation.
If you want to spend more, you can get 30,000 more points (≈ $450) by spending $2,000 a month for 3 more months. If you want to renew, you’ll get 25,000 more points (≈ $375) for $599.
It could be worth it for those who want to keep the card benefits and/or know how to maximize their Aeroplan points, which have unlimited value!
For example, if you want business class flights more quickly, get this card and unlock the entirety of the bonuses offered and do it now!
In short, 75,000 points is about the same as the very first card in this article (the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card), so I won’t repeat it all here. And 130,000 points is easy enough to figure out based on that.
How to take advantage of the Amex Aeroplan Reserve Card deal
You need to spend $6,000 in 3 months (the equivalent of $462 per week) to unlock the main bonus and ideally split that evenly ($2,000 per month over the 3 months) to get the monthly bonuses too.
So it’s higher than usual (often the case for premium cards). Our 5 tips for meeting minimum spending requirements can help. It’s worth the extra effort for such a big bonus.
Here’s how the Amex Aeroplan Reserve Card welcome bonus is structured:
- 45,000 pts: bonus after spending $6,000 in 3 months (≈ $675)
- 7,500 pts: earn on these expenses at the base earn rate (≈ $113)
- 22,500 pts: monthly bonus of 7,500 pts for those 3 months (≈ $338)
And here are the optional additional bonuses not included in our Flytrippers Valuation offer:
- 22,500 pts: monthly bonus of 7,500 pts for another 3 months (≈ $338)
- 7,500 pts: earn on these expenses at the base earn rate (≈ $113)
- 25,000 pts: bonus after renewal (≈ $375)
More info on the Amex Aeroplan Reserve Card
You can read our Amex Aeroplan Reserve Card resource page while you wait for our detailed text and video review and our free 30-page guide for the card (sign up for our free travel rewards newsletter to receive them first).
American Express Aeroplan Business Reserve Card
The Amex Aeroplan Business Reserve Card gives you Aeroplan points that are more valuable.
Overview of the new offer
The Amex Aeroplan Business Reserve Card is the business version, which again doesn’t require you to have a business, like all Amex “business” cards. It has all the same benefits.
The offer is slightly higher, but the minimum spending requirement is 50% higher, so it’s less accessible for many people.
In the case of this one, the offer is much better than the offer it replaces. A good reminder that it’s not just important to take the right card, but also to take the right card at the right time. Especially with Amex cards!
Amex Aeroplan Business Reserve Card welcome bonus
The new Amex Aeroplan Business Reserve Card welcome bonus will give you 83,750 Aeroplan points just with the main part (if you spread the required spending evenly over the 3 months), that’s what’s included in our Flytrippers Valuation.
You can get 142,500 total points by spending more and renewing, but these 2 components are not included in our Flytrippers Valuation.
If you want to spend more, you can get 33,750 more points (≈ 506$) by spending 3,000$ per month for 3 more months. If you want to renew, you’ll get 25,000 more points (≈ $375) for $599.
Again these are similar amounts to the cards higher up so you can scroll back up to read what you can do with this.
How to take advantage of the Amex Aeroplan Business Reserve Card deal
You need to spend $9,000 in 3 months (the equivalent of $692 a week) to unlock the main bonus and ideally split that evenly ($3,000 a month over the 3 months) to get the monthly bonuses too.
It’s one of the highest amounts ever seen in Canada (business versions of premium cards are sometimes like that). Our 5 tips for meeting minimum spending requirements can help you, but you’ll need to time this one with a large planned expense.
Here’s how the Amex Aeroplan Business Reserve Card welcome bonus is structured:
- 50,000 pts: bonus after spending $9,000 in 3 months (≈ $750)
- 11,250 pts: earn on these expenses at the base earn rate (≈ $169)
- 22,500 pts: monthly bonus of 7,500 pts for those 3 months (≈ $338)
And here are the optional additional bonuses not included in our Flytrippers Valuation offer:
- 22,500 pts: monthly bonus of 7,500 pts for another 3 months (≈ $338)
- 11,250 pts: earn on these expenses at the base earn rate (≈ $169)
- 25,000 pts: bonus after renewal (≈ $375)
