You are currently viewing Places with the most affordable glass of beer or wine according to Flytrippers fans

Whether it’s discovering local flavors, meeting new people, or just unwinding after a day of adventure, there’s nothing like grabbing a drink at a local bar or restaurant while traveling. At Flytrippers, we wanted to know: where did our followers find the most affordable beer or wine while traveling? So, we asked them — and here are the results!

On social media and in our free newsletter, we regularly ask for your opinion on travel-related topics to help inspire other travelers.

That often means that the most popular countries and destinations are over-represented. However, it’s still very interesting to know which ones come up most often.

Here are the places where our fans drank their most affordable glass of beer or wine.

1. Vietnam

Vietnam is by far THE place where our fans drank their cheapest glass of beer or wine. Beer (or “bia” in Vietnamese) was first introduced to this country in the late 19th century. Today, it is a popular choice in the country and local brands include the Saigonese lager “333”, Saigon, Hanoi Huda, Larue and BGI. In 2024, you can get a glass for about US$0,50 or even less!

2. Czechia (Czech Republic)

The Czech Republic has the highest beer consumption per capita in the world: 160 liters per year! In this country, beer is cheaper than soda, coffee, or even bottled water…  Despite its low price, the quality is very good. The Pilsner Urquell and the Krušovice are among the most popular brands.

3. Portugal

Portugal is the 11th largest wine producer in the world, and many grape varieties do not grow anywhere else in the world. The Alto Douro region is even a UNESCO World Heritage Site: wine has been produced there for around 2,000 years (and the famous port since the 17th century)! In general, alcohol prices in Portugal tend to be lower compared to many other European countries, so it is perfect to taste amazing products!

4. Spain

While Spain is renowned for its wine production, particularly in regions like Rioja and Ribera del Duero — it’s the 3rd largest wine producer on the planet! — beer tends to be more widely consumed on a daily basis. However, both beer and wine are relatively affordable in Spain, mainly if you go to small bars and select local products.
