You are currently viewing Promotion for VIPorter points redemptions: 25% discount on Porter and Air Transat flights

VIPorter points are newly very relevant thanks to the launch of the BMO VIPorter World Elite Mastercard and the BMO VIPorter Mastercard with absolutely phenomenal welcome bonus offers. If you’re part of the many savvy travelers in our community who have already taken advantage of them, you already have some points… and so this promotion might interest you.

Unfortunately, VIPorter points are airline points with dynamic pricing that don’t follow an award chart. So they can’t give outsized value and unlimited value, unlike Aeroplan, Avios, etc. (also because you can’t get luxurious business class).

But VIPorter points still often offer good value, and it’s logically even more true with this promotion that gives you a discount. It’s also encouraging to see that they’re going to do formal promotions like this for flights paid for in points.

Here are the details of the VIPorter points redemption promotion.

What is the VIPorter points redemption promotion?

The VIPorter points redemption promotion is precisely what the name indicates. The price for flights obtained by redeeming points is reduced for a limited time. I repeat that the prices of flights with the VIPorter program are not fixed; it’s really vital to understand (it’s the basics). That’s why Porter can do promotions like this.

Is there really 25% off VIPorter points redemptions?

If you know about plane ticket prices (in cash), you know that airline sales with discount percentages are terrible.

It’s not quite the same thing with points, for several reasons.

But it’s true that it’s a bit weird to have discount percentages when the price is dynamic and the price can be literally anything to start with… how do you know if there’s really a discount?

Well, we’ve been telling you since the cards launched that the lowest prices available were:

  • 7,000 points for flights on Porter (to Canada and the US)
  • 25,000 points for flights on Air Transat (to Europe)

Those are the best deals. Those are obviously the deals you should take advantage of, if you want to maximize the value of your VIPorter points.

Indeed, with this promotion, the lowest prices are:

  • 5,250 points for flights on Porter (to Canada and the US)
  • 18,750 points for flights on Air Transat (to Europe)

That’s a 25% discount.

So it seems quite true! Obviously, it’s impossible to say that all flights truly have 25% off because of the nature of how the program works, but it really seems very good.

What are some price examples with the VIPorter promotion?

Here are a few concrete examples, by airline.

Porter

Unlocking the awesome bonus from the BMO VIPorter World Elite Mastercard will give you 106,000 points, which is good for as many as 15 one-way flights on Porter at the “regular” rates. Pretty amazing already.

Now it’s as many as 20 one-way flights with this promotion!!!

And that’s even to go as far as Fort Lauderdale, in Florida! That’s pretty amazing at 5,250 points. I might even change my plans for my annual Miami Art Week trip and book this instead of flying there with the JetBlue challenge; it’s crazy cheap.

Porter has also launched its first routes to the Caribbean and Mexico, from Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal.

These are as low as 7,500 points!!!

Finally, if you prefer traveling domestically, the same crazy-low price of 5,250 points is available on many routes.

Air Transat

Arguably, the best redemption of VIPorter points is the Montreal-Paris route on Air Transat, at as low as 25,000 VIPorter points. Getting 2 roundtrips to Europe with just 1 welcome bonus is very good (with the BMO VIPorter World Elite Mastercard).

Well, with this promotion, the Montreal-Paris price is indeed as low as 18,750 points! That gives you almost 3 roundtrips to Europe with just one welcome bonus, which is still quite phenomenal!!!

Other cities (both departures and arrivals) are a bit pricier, though. Sometimes not by too much more. And still, they seem to all have the 25% discount.

Alaska Airlines

Certainly more of a niche redemption, but if you want to fly some of the very limited Alaska Airlines routes that are bookable with VIPorter points as of now, you’ll see the 25% discount as well.

That means it’s as low as 6,750 points, but with connecting flights.
