You are currently viewing AMEX Extends Platinum Card $200 Travel Credit And Teases Additional Enhancements

Good news for those who are AMEX Platinum Cardmembers, as American Express has announced a special policy in response to the coronavirus crisis—and has hinted at additional measures to come.

Last week, we covered the special coronavirus policies announced by Marriott and Aeroplan.

It’s now AMEX’s turn to announced good news.

AMEX Platinum Coronavirus Changes

The AMEX Platinum Card is the ultimate card for serious travelers. It has amazing benefits that you are well aware of if you are a cardmember like us.

But most of these benefits are related to traveling… which isn’t possible right now, for at least a few weeks.

On Friday, AMEX sent out an email announcing an extension for the annual $200 travel credit that comes with the card. More details about the logistics will be provided.

But the letter, signed by AMEX Canada’s CEO, also says that this is an “initial step” and that, “over the next few weeks”, they will send information “on additional programs designed to further enhance the value of your Card”.

This is great news. I have had the Platinum Card for over 3 years since I definitely maximize the unlimited lounge access by taking over 60 flights a year. But I was starting to wonder if I should consider temporarily canceling the card until travel resumes.

I will wait on news of the other measures they announce, and we will keep you updated here.
