There are 2 types of rewards that exist:

• More simple type
• More lucrative type

When there are low prices, like with the Flair Airlines sale, it’s almost never worth wasting your rewards of the more lucrative type. Those have a variable value (that is often unlimited), so use them wisely: when the flight’s cash price is more expensive.

You should instead use rewards of the more simple type for the Flair sale. Those always have the same value anyway. In the case of this Flair Airlines sale, there’s a promo code and you need to book through their website to get the discount, so that limits you to the most flexible rewards that can be used on any website (like the Scotiabank Gold American Express Card‘s Scene+ points or the TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite Card‘s TD Rewards points). 

If you want to use bank rewards for the flights, you must pay for the flight with the card in question.

Make sure it’s a card that has insurance coverage. Make sure that it’s a card you’ll still have on your flight date: you obviously need to still have the card during the flight if you want the insurance that covers the flight.
