You are currently viewing Porter finally adds international flights (non-USA): 5 new “sun” destinations announced

Porter continues its incredible growth. The Canadian airline has always served only destinations in Canada and the United States, but today it just announced its first international flights outside of ou great Southern neighbor that is so beloved by everyone these days. Yes, Porter is going to have “sun” destinations!

This is excellent news for those who take advantage of the incredible deal on the brand new BMO VIPorter World Elite Mastercard, which gives you 106,000 VIPorter points!

(Flights on Air Transat were the best redemption of these points for many… but these new Porter flights cost as little as 20,000 points roundtrip!!!)

Here are the details of Porter’s new international flights.

Overview of Porter’s new international flights

It’s excellent news… except for those who don’t live in Ontario and are incapable of traveling with a connection (it’s so important to learn to have connections and it’s really not the end of the world)!

These first 13 routes are all from 3 Ontario airports, but they are still easily accessible from all over Canada with a connection!

(For Québec-based travelers, in our post about the new Montreal-Metropolitan airport being built by Porter, I mentioned that the anti-competitive exclusivity clause that YUL has for international flights could be lifted… Maybe Porter is keeping new routes to the “South” as leverage to convince the government to stop keeping prices higher… To be continued!)

More airlines to a destination equals lower prices to that destination! As simple as that! It was obviously very predictable for Porter to get into this market, but it’s great that it’s now starting!

Here are Porter’s 5 new “sun” destinations:

  • Liberia, Costa Rica (LIR)
  • Cancún, Mexico (CUN)
  • Puerto Vallarta, Mexico (PVR)
  • Nassau, Bahamas (NAS)
  • Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands (GCM)

The routes will be offered from the following 3 Ontario airports:

  • Toronto-Pearson (YYZ)
  • Ottawa (YOW)
  • Hamilton (YHM)

From Toronto and Ottawa, all 5 destinations are offered. From Hamilton, GCM and LIR airports will not be served.

We’re now obviously going to spot all the deals on these routes! You’ll be able to find them with the dozens of other deals we spot every day on our cheap flight deals page!

Porter has very competitive prices on all their existing routes, so their arrival in the market for flights to Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central America is excellent news for prices!

Don’t forget that the BMO VIPorter World Elite Mastercard also gives you automatic Porter elite status! That gives you free carry-ons and checked bags on all Porter flights (for you and also 8 travel companions on the same booking)!

Summary

Excellent news for competition in Canada: there’s another player in the market for flights to Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean. Porter’s new international flights are obviously limited for now, but this already opens up plenty of new options for anyone who is capable of surviving taking 2 flights to get somewhere.
