HSBC World Elite® Mastercard® (excl. QC)

This offer is only available to residents of Canada other than the province of Quebec (Quebec residents eligible for separate offer).

A good no-foreign-transaction-fee card with good insurance coverage

in free travel after $5,000 in 6 months

The HSBC World Elite Mastercard is a great card for travelers, however the current welcome bonus, while good compared to many other cards, is not as high as it can sometimes be.

The welcome bonus is worth ≈ $440 based on our Flytrippers valuation and the minimum spend required to unlock it is a bit higher (but you have 6 months to reach it).

The card also is one of the very few cards with no foreign transaction fee, saving you 2.5% on all purchases in other currencies compared to most cards (only the exchange rate applies).

Finally, the card’s base earn rate is one of the best in Canada… and the points you earn are extremely flexible, as you can use them as an easy-to-use travel credit or transfer them to 3 airline partners.

Not included in our Valuation is another $61 in value in Year 2, as there is also a great new additional anniversary bonus of 20,000 points (≈$110) in addition to the annual $100 travel credit.

Offer ends October 3rd.

For example, the welcome bonus is enough for a roundtrip Toronto-Miami one-way flights or almost enough for a Toronto-Dublin one-way flight AND a Toronto-Miami one-way flight.
