You are currently viewing Edmonton hotels promotion: Discount of up to $225 per 3-night stay

A few cities have been running promotions with hotel discounts recently, and we’ve never talked about it since it’s so niche. But since we’re spotting flights as low as $100 roundtrip to Edmonton almost every day from most Canadian cities, I thought we should share this one.

You can get 3 hotel nights for just $15 a night (or $8 per person with a travel buddy). It’s really not a super-pretty hotel (unlike the deal for 17 nights in Marriott hotels in Bali for $120 per person with travel rewards), but it’s really not expensive.

(For Canada at least… many countries are very cheap to travel to, but sadly most people keep always traveling in expensive countries!)

If you combine this Edmonton hotels promotion with the frequent flights deal at around $100 roundtrip (by traveling ultra light), that gives you a 3-night trip (so 4 days) for just $123 total per person with a travel buddy, or $145 total for solo travelers. Very cheap for flights and accommodations! As always, when it comes to food, there are ways to get by at almost zero cost compared to what you would have spent on food at home anyway.

Here are all the details on the Edmonton hotels promotion.

Overview of the Edmonton hotels promotion

Here are the basics:

  • Edmonton’s Best Hotels promotion
    • To make your hotel stay less expensive
    • To encourage you to visit the city
  • Prepaid Mastercard offered based on stay length
    • $50 for a 1-night stay
    • $150 for a 2-night stay
    • $225 for a 3-night stay
  • There are 50+ participating hotels
    • In all price ranges
    • Hotels can be easily sorted by price
  • Some hotels cost just $270 for 3 nights (taxes included)
    • So only $45 for 3 nights net
    • So just $8 per night per person (2 travelers)
    • Or $15 per night per person (solo travelers)
  • A Marriott hotel costs just $387 for 3 nights
    • So only $162 for 3 nights net
    • So just $27 per night per person (2 travelers)
    • Or $54 per night per person (solo travelers)

Here are the logistical details:

  • You have to book on the official promotion website
    • You must book at least 24 hours in advance
  • You must book a stay by December 31, 2023
    • All dates are eligible (no blackouts)
  • You can book several stays (no limit on the deal)
    • But there must be at least 3 days between your stays
  • You’ll receive your prepaid card the morning after check-in
    • But it can take up to 24 hours
    • You could possibly use it to pay for the hotel itself
    • But if you don’t, it can pay for your groceries at home, and it’s all the same
  • You can also choose gas or restaurant gift cards
    • But it really doesn’t make sense to do that
  • You can’t apply the promotion to bookings you’ve already made
    • But almost all hotels are refundable free of charge
    • So just get your money back and book through the promotion

Here’s the travel rewards angle:

  • You should be able to enjoy the benefits of hotel programs
    • But there’s no guarantee
  • That would give you 3 Marriott elite night credits for a total of $162
  • You have to give the hotel your membership number yourself
    • This is not possible via the promotion website

Hereare the details to plan a trip:

  • Edmonton is the capital of Alberta
    • Some use the “Deadmonton” name pejoratively
    • But I enjoyed my short visit in the city
    • The deal makes me want to go back this fall
  • Flights are as low as $100 roundtrip (from most cities)
  • The cheapest hotels are in more remote locations
    • So not very walkable
    • Rental cars are expensive in Edmonton these days
    • Don’t miss our guide to rental cars coming soon

How to book the Edmonton hotel promotion (step by step)

It’s pretty much as easy as booking any hotel online like you’ve hopefully done many times in the past, but here’s the step by step if it helps you.

Firstly, always book your flights before you book your accommodation (an all-too-common basic mistake).

So you can look at the dates of the flight deals to Edmonton from your city to get started, or follow one by one the 31 tips in our preview guide on how to save on plane tickets to find cheap dates that work for you.

Then go to the Edmonton’s Best Hotels promotion’s official website.

Click on “Book now”, unsurprisingly.

“Book now” button (image credit: Edmonton’s Best Hotels

Click on “Get rewarded” or scroll down on your own.

Click on the desired number of nights (1, 2, or 3 nights).

Select number of nights (image credit: Edmonton’s Best Hotels)

Click on the Mastercard prepaid card in all cases. It obviously makes no sense to choose a more restrictive gift card when the amount is the same anyway.

(The gift card and prepaid card tip is one of the best for earning more travel rewards so easily, and in that case gift cards are better because Mastercard prepaid cards have activation fees… but with the promotion, the Mastercard prepaid card is already activated and completely free!)

On the next screen, the deal is already selected, so just enter the desired arrival date (check-in) for your stay. Since you’ve already selected the deal for duration X, the correct check-out date will already be filled in automatically. Adjust the number of people if necessary.

Click on the large yellow “Next step select hotel” button.

As with literally any hotel search tool, you can use the filters offered, sort by lowest price, and view hotels on a map if you prefer.

Results sorting options (image credit: Edmonton’s Best Hotels)

I always recommend sorting by price to see the cheapest options.

It’s the total price for the 3 days that appears.

Like all hotel search results, taxes are not included in the first price displayed (it’s why I wrote above that the cheapest was $270 for 3 nights and not $240, because I obviously included taxes).

Prices (image credit: Edmonton’s Best Hotels)

Obviously, prices vary for all dates. Try as many dates as possible if you want to find cheaper hotels, exactly as you should do for flights.

When you’re ready to book, click on “View Room Types”.

Rooms (image credit: Edmonton’s Best Hotels)

The different rooms are listed. If you want to save money, you choose the cheapest one and click on “Book now” (sometimes there are several room types at the same price obviously; you choose your preference by reading the inclusions).

There you finally see the price with taxes, $270 for 3 nights.

After deducting the $225 prepaid Mastercard you get with this Edmonton hotels promotion, that means it’ll cost you just $45 total for 3 nights net. Pretty incredible.

To complete the reservation, you need to click on the yellow “Proceed to checkout” button.

So you fill in all the information just as you have for any hotel you’ve ever booked.

Because it’s a special promotion, the refund policy may be more restrictive (for example, the usual free cancellation may not be offered).

So read the conditions if you’re unsure about traveling, as you should always do.

And of course always pay with a credit card that includes free trip cancelation insurance, as you always should too, it’ll reimburse you if you have to cancel for one of the good reasons that are covered at least.

Marriott elite status with the Edmonton hotels promotion

If you’re one of those who want to achieve higher Marriott elite status, the Four Points by Sheraton Edmonton West seems to be the least expensive on most dates I’ve tried.

As a reminder, if you have the Marriott Bonvoy American Express Card (the only one we recommend literally every Canadian traveler should have, without exception), you’re automatically a Silver Elite member and get a shortcut to the much more attractive Gold Elite level: only 10 nights required.

So if you’re a few nights short and don’t have the opportunity to go somewhere much less expensive/more exciting by the end of 2023, you could theoretically take advantage of this Edmonton hotels promotion to get 3 elite night credits for just $162 total.
