TD Rewards points, often called TD points, are the rewards of the more simple type that are the easiest to earn in large quantities right now. We’ll soon have a detailed guide, but we want to at least share this post that regroups all the details about how to use TD points that were already on our resource pages for every card that earns TD points.

This post is about how you can redeem TD Rewards points, as in your available options to redeem your rewards. We’ll share a separate post on the logistics and the step-by-step process to actually redeem them, with screenshots, very soon.

Here’s how to redeem TD Rewards points.

TD Rewards points are the currency of the TD Rewards program, which belongs to TD Bank.

These are rewards of the more simple type (so they’re necessarily less lucrative).

The number of TD Rewards points required for travel is therefore simply tied to the cash price. The value varies very little within each available redemption option (not at all for the 2 TD Rewards travel redemption options).

There are also very few restrictions or complexities. You can redeem them for any travel expense at a simple guaranteed fixed value! This gives you tremendous flexibility!

With the current record-high increased offer on the TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite Card, we’ll have a lot more content about this program.

Overview of all 6 redemption options for TD Rewards points

The goal is always to have the most rewards, but also to maximize the value of all your rewards. As rewards of the more simple type, TD Rewards points are very easy to understand, redeem, and maximize.

Obviously, one of the basics of travel rewards is that all reward programs offer many redemption options, most of which give you a different value. But as mentioned, the value within a redemption option does not vary much because these are points of the more simple type.

Here are all redemption options available for TD Rewards points and the value per point with each option:

  • 0.5¢ Any trips on the TD website
  • 0.4¢ Any trips on any website
  • 0.33¢ Merchandise on Amazon
  • ≈ 0.33¢ Gift cards
  • ≈ 0.33¢ Merchandise
  • 0.25¢ Cash back as a statement credit

Unfortunately, many people don’t grasp the huge difference between 0.25¢/pt and 0.5¢/pt (100% more free travel). When the value is expressed in ¢/pt (the standard unit of measure for rewards value), the difference seems less significant than it really is.

So, for a concrete example, here’s the value of the 165,000 points you’ll get by unlocking the current record-high welcome bonus on the TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite Card:

  • $825 Any trips on the TD website
  • $660 Any trips on any website
  • $545 Merchandise on Amazon
  • ≈ $545 Gift cards
  • ≈ $545 Merchandise
  • $412 Cash back as a statement credit

Getting $825 for your trips is much better than getting just $412, right? And you’ll also get 2 separate travel credits worth $100 each within your 1st year with the card.

That gives you a Flytrippers Valuation of $1025 with the bonus, since there’s no annual fee the 1st year.

Details of how to redeem TD Rewards points (6 options)

I’ll assume you’ve already created a free TD Rewards online account.

Here’s more information about each redemption option.

Redeem TD Rewards points for any trips on the TD website

Value per TD Rewards point: 0.5¢

The more simple type of rewards redemption, with a fixed value. It’s worth less but gives you more flexibility. TD Rewards points can be used for almost any travel expense this way, because Expedia for TD has just about every option, including activities and attraction tickets.

Here are examples of the number of TD points required for simple discounts on any travel booked on the TD site:

  • 1,000 pts Discount of $5 on travel booked on Expedia for TD
  • 10,000 pts Discount of $50 on travel booked on Expedia for TD
  • 100,000 pts Discount of $500 on travel booked on Expedia for TD
  • 165,000 pts Discount of $825 on travel booked on Expedia for TD

Redeem TD Rewards points for any trips on any website

Value per TD Rewards point: 0.4¢

Another more simple type of reward redemption, with a fixed value. When using them this way, TD Rewards points are really as simple as points can be, as you can use them to simply erase any travel expense booked on any site. You lose value compared to the previous option, so we don’t recommend it.

Here are examples of the number of TD points required for simple discounts on any travel booked on any site:

  • 1,000 pts Discount of $4 on travel booked on any website
  • 10,000 pts Discount of $40 on travel booked on any website
  • 100,000 pts Discount of $400 on travel booked on any website
  • 165,000 pts Discount of $660 on travel booked on any website
