The WestJet Rewards program will soon switch from its strange “WestJet dollars” currency to “WestJet points.” To celebrate, Canada’s 2nd-largest airline is running a giveaway where you can win 1 of 25 prizes of 1 million points (worth $10,000 per prize) or 50 prizes of 100,000 points (worth $1,000 per prize).
Let’s be very clear: WestJet points are worth much less than “real” good airline points like Aeroplan points and 6 others that are easily accessible to Canadians. That… is not changing.
But 1 million points, that’s still huge. And it only takes a few seconds (or 2 minutes if you don’t yet have a free account) to enter the giveaway, so you should definitely do it.

Here’s how to enter the WestJet giveaway:
- Go to the WestJet giveaway page
- Create a free account (if you don’t have one)
- Enter your info (if you have an account)
- Accept the giveaway terms to enter (2nd button)
- No need to accept the email marketing (1st)
- Complete this before the deadline
- April 21 at 1:59 AM (Eastern Time)
- AKA April 20 at 11:59 PM (Mountain Time)

Here are the prizes to be won with the WestJet giveaway:
- 25 prizes of 1,000,000 WestJet points
- 50 prizes of 100,000 WestJet points
It’s rare for airlines to offer a huge amount like 1 million points to everyone who wants them, as SAS (Scandinavian Airlines) did last fall.
(I had told you about their crazy promotion, which allowed me to do an epic round-the-world trip and get the easiest million points ever!)
As I told you then, usually, a big amount like that is reserved for just a few random winners of contests and giveaways… as is the case with WestJet this month.
How to redeem WestJet points

But it’s good to learn a bit more about this rewards program, and not just to know what you can do with the prizes if you win the WestJet giveaway!
Sunwing is in the process of being merged into WestJet, and significant improvements are coming to the program.
But not in terms of value unfortunately (not yet at least). If you already have WestJet dollars (WSD), 1 WestJet dollar will become 100 WestJet points and keep the exact same value.
In short, WestJet dollars/points are rewards of the more simple type.
That means they cannot give you outsized value or unlimited value, nor can they give you luxurious lie-flat pod seats in business class for less than economy class prices.
But 1 million WestJet points will give you $10,000 in WestJet flights (1¢ per point). That’s not bad.
And WestJet doesn’t just fly within North America anymore! They now fly to 2 Asian destinations, in addition to the European destinations they added a while back. So, you would have plenty of options. May I suggest Japan if you win?🗼⛩️
