When we think of penguins, we often imagine a large colony of them living in Antarctica… but that is not the only place you can find some!
When I went to Peru, I was surprised to learn that there were penguins there! I was even more so when I saw those who lived in South Africa!
In New Zealand, there are so many penguins that they even installed penguin crossing signs.

Here are 5 unusual places where you can see penguins.
1. Punta Tombo in Argentina: Magellanic Penguin
Argentina deals aren’t very frequent, but they’ve recently deregulated their aviation industry so things are looking up!
2. Boulder’s Beach in South Africa: African Penguins
Those penguins are not afraid of the heat! When we went there, it was over 30°C. We often spot great deals to South Africa around $800 (here are 10 reasons to go to South Africa).
3. Oamaru in New Zealand: Little Penguin
New Zealand is an expensive place to fly to (and expensive once you’re there too), but it looks like it’s quite worth it.
4. Paracas National Reserve in Peru: Humboldt Penguin
I did not see them personally, but Andrew went there on his trip to Peru.
5. Cooper Bay in South Georgia: Macaroni Penguin
South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands are islands that belong to the United Kingdom at the extreme southern tip of Argentina.
And what’s even better than penguins? Baby penguins!
Summary
Penguin lovers can see them in person in many countries, it’s much better than at the zoo!

We saw the little penguins on Phillip Island south of Melbourne as well. They also have penguin crossing signs! Every night they come into shore in waves and head for their nests, under boardwalks above the beach. Such an amazing sight to witness!
