TD Rewards points are the currency of the TD Rewards program that belongs to TD Bank.

These are rewards of the more simple type (so they’re necessarily less lucrative).

The number of TD Rewards points required for travel is therefore simply tied to the cash price. The value varies very little within each available redemption option (not at all for the 2 TD Rewards travel redemption options).

There are also very few restrictions or complexities. You can redeem them for any travel expense at a simple guaranteed fixed value! This gives you tremendous flexibility!

In this post, we’re only looking at the best redemptions. You can read the introduction on how to redeem TD Rewards points for all the options.

Examples of the best redemptions of TD Rewards points

Since the value of TD Rewards points is fixed (within each available redemption option), these examples of best redemptions are not at all like those with rewards of the more lucrative type that have a value that varies enormously and can give you excellent deals.

But we still want to help you see exactly what you could do with the 165,000 TD Rewards points you’ll get by unlocking the increased bonus on the TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite Card (you’ll also get 2 separate TD travel credits of $100 each).

Here are 6 concrete examples of what you can get with TD Rewards points.

Best redemption of TD Rewards points #1: Any hotel booked on Expedia for TD

  • Price in TD Rewards points: 10,000 points for $50
  • Value: 0.5¢/pt

Booking hotels is the ideal redemption!

Why? There are 2 main reasons:

  • You’ll be able to automatically activate your $100 TD travel credit
    • If you redeem $500 worth of points (100,000 points) on one single booking
  • It’s always better to book flights directly with an airline
    • And there are so many points currencies that are better for flights
    • That can give you a higher value

Expedia has thousands of hotels all over the world, so it’s very flexible. Check if Expedia for TD has the best price, though.

Best redemption of TD Rewards points #2: Any private accommodation booked on Expedia for TD

  • Price in TD Rewards points: 10,000 points for $50
  • Value: 0.5¢/pt

If you prefer private accommodation rentals, that’s possible with the many options available on Expedia for TD.

Best redemption of TD Rewards points #3: Any flight booked on Expedia for TD

  • Price in TD Rewards points: 10,000 points for $50
  • Value: 0.5¢/pt

If you absolutely want to book a flight, it’s doable even if the basics of buying plane tickets are to avoid third parties.

For a nonstop flight that’s not for a vital trip, it’ll probably not be the end of the world. But still, it’s so much better to just redeem the points for the other travel expenses…

Best redemption of TD Rewards points #4: Any activity booked on Expedia for TD

  • Price in TD Rewards points: 10,000 points for $50
  • Value: 0.5¢/pt

It’s often more difficult to redeem points for travel activities, such as attraction tickets and excursions. TD Rewards points allow this with quite a few options available.

Best redemption of TD Rewards points #5: Any car rental booked on Expedia for TD

  • Price in TD Rewards points: 10,000 points for $50
  • Value: 0.5¢/pt

If you need a rental car, you can redeem your points for that. However, redemptions don’t seem available in all countries for some reason.

Best redemption of TD Rewards points #6: Any travel expense booked anywhere

  • Price in TD Rewards points: 10,000 points for $40
  • Value: 0.4¢/pt

This is not one of the best redemptions of points, except if you really want more flexibility.

If you absolutely want to book elsewhere than on the Expedia for TD platform, it’s allowed. You can book anywhere. But as everything in life gives you either more value or more simplicity… you’ll lose value.

TD Rewards points have a fixed value of 0.4¢/pt if you redeem them elsewhere, instead of 0.5¢/pt.

We strongly recommend not doing this and instead getting 25% more free travel by booking at the right place: Expedia is literally one of the biggest travel booking sites in the world, and it offers so many options.

It’s really not that hard to find a redemption that gives you the maximum value… and maximizing everything is obviously the best thing to do!
