You are currently viewing Porter Airlines sale: 20% off base fares (January 2025)

The current Porter Airlines sale can save you money on your plane tickets. This is especially true if you already had flights to book. Despite Porter’s fares often being some of the lowest in Canada even when there’s no formal sale, it rarely is worth planning a trip around the prices in their sales (like most airline sales; except ultra low-cost carriers).

Prices with airline sales are almost always higher than when there’s an actual good deal — Flytrippers spots many of those daily on its flight deals page. But airline sales do have a lot more available dates!

Here are the details of the Porter Airlines sale.

Overview of the Porter Airlines sale (January 2025)

Porter Airlines is currently offering a sale for those who want to discover their interesting, albeit limited, destinations in Western Canada or the U.S. this year (or in Ontario and Québec if you are in Western Canada already)!

Here are the basics of the Porter Airlines sale:

  • Discount on flights operated by Porter only (not by partners)
    • To/from Western destinations only
    • Full list at the end of this post
  • Up to 20% off
    • Lower for some date ranges
    • Lower for some days of the week
    • Lower for the most expensive fare classes
    • Seats are limited, as always with all flights
  • Applies to the base fare only (not the taxes)
    • As is always the case with all airline sales
  • Applies to flights paid with cash only (not VIPorter points)
    • Many rewards of the more simple type can still be used
  • Must be booked before January 19, 2025
    • At 11:59 PM Eastern
  • Flight must take place in a wide time frame
    • Between January 24 and October 25, 2025
    • Blackout dates are listed right below
  • Must use promo code CM5AYY

Since the discount percentage depends on 3 factors, it’s a bit more complicated.

Here are more details about the discounts and dates for the Porter Airlines sale:

  • January 24 to June 25
    • Basic, Standard, and Navigate fare classes

    • August 27 to September 2
    • October 9 to 14

Some of these flights are cheap, but free is even better than cheap.

You can easily apply your TD Rewards points to flights booked with Porter to get your flights for free if you follow our pro tip and get the amazing deal for $723 (CA$1025) free with the TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite Card (the deal is worth “just” $607 (CA$860) if you redeem the points on a website other than the bank’s, but that’s still excellent).

Now, you can still get it — it was just extended — but you won’t get your points in time to book this Porter Airlines sale, obviously.

Before sharing the full list of eligible routes from each Canadian city, it’s worth reminding you of related tips so that you avoid a mistake that is so common.

Best credit card to use to pay for flights with the Porter Airlines sale

If you like to travel for less, choosing the right credit cards is the most important thing, even if it’s seemingly unrelated to travel for those who sadly don’t yet know about the wonderful world of travel rewards.

That means choosing the right cards:

Choosing the right card to pay is even more important for travel purchases, and even more for flights specifically: in addition to all the free travel they give you easily, credit cards have amazing insurance coverage included for free (cancelation, interruption, flight delay, delayed/lost baggage, etc.)!

It’s so easy to avoid having to whine about paying for a hotel during a flight cancelation: just pay with a good credit card. Simple. That’s literally one of the most important travel tips out there!

You have to pay with the card to be covered — EXCEPT for the medical insurance, the most important one, which almost always covers you even without paying with your card (contrary to the common myth). Detailed post coming very soon.

Here are your 4 options to pay for your flights during the Porter Airlines sale (in order of priority):

  • Card that has the travel rewards you want to use on the flight AND has insurance
  • Card that has a welcome bonus you’re currently unlocking AND has insurance
  • Card that has a multiplier earn rate on travel AND has insurance
  • Card that at least has insurance

Card that has the travel rewards you want to use on the flight AND has insurance

There are 2 types of rewards that exist:

  • More simple type
  • More lucrative type

When there are low prices, like with the Porter Airlines sale, it’s almost never worth wasting your rewards of the more lucrative type. Those have a variable value (that is often unlimited), so use them wisely: when the flight’s cash price is more expensive.

You should instead use rewards of the more simple type for the Porter sale. Those always have the same value anyway. In the case of this Porter Airlines sale, there’s a promo code and you need to book through their website to get the discount, so that limits you to the most flexible rewards that can be used on any website (like the TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite Card‘s TD Rewards points or the Scotiabank Gold American Express Card‘s Scene+ points).

If you want to use bank rewards for the flights, you must pay for the flight with the card in question.

Make sure it’s a card that has insurance coverage. Make sure that it’s a card you’ll still have on your flight date: you obviously need to still have the card during the flight if you want the insurance that covers the flight.

Card that has a welcome bonus that you’re currently unlocking AND has insurance

If you don’t want to redeem travel rewards, which makes sense in many scenarios, you should always pay with a credit card on which you are unlocking a huge welcome bonus

That’s true for ALL your purchases.

Because welcome bonuses are key! Most give the equivalent of 10-15% back, a little better than the 1% or 2% that people usually earn, huh!

Of course, if the card you’re currently unlocking the welcome bonus on doesn’t have good insurance, don’t use it. But most cards with great welcome bonuses have good insurance coverage.

Card that has a multiplier earn rate on travel AND has insurance

If you are sadly not unlocking a welcome bonus (you always should; maximizing your rewards earning is really that simple), prioritize using a card that at least has a multiplier earn rate on the travel category to earn more than the card’s base earn rate.

At the very least, pay with a card that has insurance. Pick the one with the best earn rate among your cards that have insurance.
