The most premium card there is, with unlimited airport lounge access (recommended for those who travel a lot)

≈ –$94

in free travel after $2,000 in 3 months

We’re keeping it here in case you’ve started traveling and want the unlimited lounge access now…

But if not, we strongly recommend waiting for the Welcome Bonus to return to normal.

We both have this card and it is amazing. But since its fee is high and the welcome bonus that normally makes the first year profitable is now halved (and is “once-in-a-lifetime”), we recommend it only when it is a profitable offer.

Unlimited access to airport lounges (for 2 people) and Gold Elite Status at Marriott and Hilton are some of the perks that make your travel experience more luxurious.

And these are just some of the benefits of this card, the most prestigious in Canada (and now a sleek shiny metal card).

25,000 American Express MR Points Welcome Bonus
≈ $375 (≈ 1.5 ¢ / pt)
Points earned on the $2,000 minimum spend
≈ $30
Annual travel credit
= $200
Card Fee
= $699 (deducted from total free travel)

Total of –$94 in free travel
(or an even worse value of –$229 as fixed-value points)
+ all points earned with your regular purchases

After the –$94 Welcome Bonus…

Here is Points earn rate:
3 pts (≈4.5%) per $ on dining
2 pts (≈2%) per $ on travel
1 pt (≈1.5%) per $ everywhere

American Express Points are hybrid (fixed-value or variable-value) and transferable.

Variable value: Points can be transferred to Aeroplan, Avios, Delta and others (and potentially give you more for your money, but this requires more flexibility). They can also be used via American Express’s fixed-price award chart directly.

Fixed value: Points can also be applied to travel expenses via the AMEX portal, which gives you more flexibility but can not give you more for your money.
