You are currently viewing Deal: Dates spotted for 12 hours in the world’s best business class for 70,000 points (Montreal-Qatar)

Flytrippers has spotted available dates for Qatar Airways’ famous Qsuite, the world’s best business class. As always when there are available seats, the price is only 70,000 points and you can access them if you have Avios points, RBC Avion points, or American Express Membership Rewards points.

Following the first post in our new feature with travel rewards redemption testimonials, many have asked for more details on this amazing business class, and we’re certainly going to have some.

Here’s a teaser on how to book this concretely.

Questions? Ask them in the comments at the bottom of this post and I'll answer them!

Available dates

Since Flytrippers has been spotting low-cost plane ticket deals for 7 years, it makes sense to help you spot deals with airline points too.

That’s what we’re testing today.

For business class, all flights at the fixed prices in the award charts are always a good deal, so the deal is to find flights with available seats. If you didn’t know this, you absolutely must read the basics of airline points.

Here are the details of this travel rewards redemption:

  • From: Montreal (YUL)
  • To: Doha (DOH)
  • Type: One-way
  • Stops: None
  • Airline: Qatar Airways
  • Price in cash: $9133
  • Price in points: 70,000 pts
  • Taxes/fees: $180
  • Value achieved: 12.8¢/pt
  • Flytrippers Valuation: ≈ 1.5¢/pt

Here are the spotted dates:

  • November 24, 2024
  • February 18, 2024
  • March 21, 2025
  • March 25, 2025
  • June 4, 2025

This flight is worth a crazy amount of $9133, giving you a value of 12.8¢/pt.

A little more than the terrible value of 1¢/pt that plenty of people unfortunately get by sadly using their precious RBC Avion points and their Amex points at a fixed value.

Basics of business class deals

The most important thing to understand with redemptions for business class specifically is that seats are scarce.

So book right away and ask questions later. Especially with this program that charges just US$25 if you want to cancel a flight.

It’s easy to buy positioning flights to Montreal (if you don’t live there), it’s easy to buy cheap short flights from Doha to the rest of the Middle East or Asia (in points or cash), and it’s easy to find a return flight with points (if you don’t mind flying economy, you can already book the same route for just 35,000 points; it’s better to do it on a separate booking to be able to cancel it if you find an available seat in business class later).

If you absolutely want to fly in business class on the return and you can’t find availability, or if you completely change your mind, it’s going to cost you only US$25 to cancel as I just mentioned. But if you don’t book, as is always the case with business class, there are chances you simply won’t find any availability for the outbound flight.

What’s pressing is to make sure you have a wonderful 12-hour flight in the world’s best business class, an experience I can only recommend.

How to book (if you already have Avios points)

Avios points are the most complex of airline rewards, in all aspects.

Their most important peculiarity is that several reward programs use the same Avios points. So you can redeem your Avios points with the British Airways Executive Club program, the Qatar Airways Privilege Club program, the Iberia Plus program, the Finnair Plus program, and the Aer Lingus Aer Club program.

They all give access to the same seats on oneworld alliance airlines, but some programs have more non-alliance partners and therefore more available seats. And they’re all different programs, with different prices and different rules.

In short, you can book with the British Airways Executive Club program directly.

But in this case, you should rather book with the Qatar Airways Privilege Club program. Because in this case, it’s the same price, and the cancellation policy is much better with Qatar Airways (just US$25).

And what’s more, it’s a Qatar Airways flight, so it’s better to book directly through their program when it’s possible at the same price (which is rare with points).

You can easily transfer Avios points from British Airways to Qatar Airways from your Qatar Airways account, at a rate of 1-to-1. If you’re already a pro and your Avios points are in your Iberia, Aer Lingus, or Finnair accounts, you can also transfer them the same way.

Here are the steps to follow in order if you’re starting from scratch:

  • Create a Qatar Airways Privilege Club account
  • Transfer your Avios points to the Qatar Airways Privilege Club
  • Book your flight on the Qatar Airways Privilege Club website

How to book (if you have RBC Avion points or Amex points)

If you’ve read the basics of transferable bank points, you know that ideally, you should transfer your bank points during transfer bonuses that give you 30% more value (like RBC Avion offers every year to British Airways).

But that gives you less flexibility — and it’s obviously too late for these specific seats because there’s currently no transfer bonus.

If you have RBC Avion points and American Express Membership Rewards points, the best is often to transfer the RBC Avion points to British Airways, and keep the Amex points to transfer to Aeroplan.

However, transferring Amex points tends to take less time to arrive in the British Airways account (if you’ve already linked your accounts, as we’ve been telling you for years to always do in advance). Amex (and Aeroplan) points are also easier to earn in large quantities quickly.

It’s up to you to decide which ones to choose.

You can read how to transfer Amex points to partners and how to transfer RBC Avion points to partners.

Then follow the steps of the previous section once you have Avios points.

How to book (if you don’t have Avios, RBC Avion, or Amex points)

It’s simple: you need to stop missing out and you need to start earning points of the more lucrative kind as soon as possible so you can book amazing deals like this as soon as possible.

The current deal that gives the highest amount of points in the shortest time is with the American Express Business Gold Rewards Card. It does NOT require you to have an incorporated business at all (like all American Express “business” cards), but it does require you to follow special instructions during the application process.
