The TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card’s Aeroplan points are a lot more valuable.
But that necessarily means they’re not as simple as points from the TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite Card ($1000 for almost any travel expense; 1st year fee waived) or the Scotiabank Gold American Express Card ($825 that you can use for literally any travel expense booked on any site; 1st year fee waived)

Keep in mind that if your application is initially declined online, you can possibly get it approved by calling in to give additional information. It’s not common, but it’s more common than with other banks; it’s the unique peculiarity of the TD process. So don’t wait and apply quickly!

It’s literally unlimited. If you use the points well, they can be worth $1500 easily, even in economy class. In business class or first class, they are easily worth $2000+!
That’s the beauty of travel rewards of the more lucrative type. You can get outsized value if you want to. A flight’s price in points is NOT tied to its price in cash.

This is the breakdown of the rewards:
- 45,000 points: Welcome bonus (3 separate bonuses)
- 12,000 points: Earn on the minimum spend (at base earn rate of 1 pt/$)
That’s what’s a bit unique with the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card; the bonus is actually 3 separate bonuses.
Your 45,000-point bonus is broken down like this:
- 10,000 points: After you make your first purchase
- 15,000 points: After you spend $7,500 (in maximum 180 days)
- 20,000 points: After you spend another $4,500 (in maximum 1 year) and renew the card
Yes, this specific bonus includes a renewal bonus. It’s obviously worth it considering its value, and our Flytrippers Valuation of the offer (≈ $716) obviously takes into account the year 2 fee (≈ $855 in points minus $139 fee), as always.
The following years, you reevaluate the card’s value and you can close it if you don’t get more than $139 in value from its benefits (like the free checked bags for 9 passengers).

Math for the Flytrippers Valuation
You get ≈ $855 in rewards (conservative value for economy class), and the fee is $0 in the first year (first year free) and $139 in the second year to get the anniversary bonus, which is worth so much more than the fee.
So ≈ $855 minus $139 is ≈ $716.
Minimum spending requirement
To unlock the welcome bonus on the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card, you need to spend $7,500 in a maximum of 180 days (6 months) and then an extra $4,500 (for a total of $12,000) in the first year.
You do not need to unlock each one to get the other, but it’s obviously what you should do because getting all the points is better.
Spending $7,500 in 6 months is the equivalent of just $288 per week (26 weeks). Spending $4,500 in the other 6 months (as an example; you can do it before too) is the equivalent of just $173 per week.

Effective percentage back
You get ≈ 6.0% back on $12,000 in spending (≈ $716 on $12,000). A bit better than 1% or 2%, right?
And again, that’s at the conservative economy class valuation.
Minimum income requirement
Theoretically, your income must be over $60,000 (personal) or $100,000 (household) to be eligible for the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card.
Most banks don’t ask for proof of income, but it could happen. You can read the basics of credit card minimum income requirements. If you prefer following the rules, the Amex Gold Rewards Card gives you points that are transferable to Aeroplan and the Amex Aeroplan Card gives you the free bag benefit (cards issued by Amex Bank do not have a minimum income).
Welcome bonus eligibility restrictions
TD is in the middle of the pack in terms of welcome bonus eligibility rules. You must not have had this specific card in the past 12 months to be eligible for this welcome bonus on the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card.
However, Aeroplan is the most unique program: they theoretically have their own very strict when it comes to eligibility rules for welcome bonuses. You are not eligible for the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card’s welcome bonus if you’ve already had a main-level Aeroplan credit card (fee in the $100s) before.
These are the official rules… but they aren’t enforced at all. What is sometimes enforced is that the 1st part of the welcome bonus, 10,000 points, can be clawed back. And you might be lucky even if you’re technically not eligible and get the whole welcome bonus.

Main benefits
The TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card offers the Air Canada free checked bag benefit, giving you and up to 8 companions on the same booking the first checked bag for free. To be clear, it doesn’t matter if you didn’t use the card to book, if you booked before you had the card… nothing matters. If you have the card and check-in for your flight with Air Canada, you’ll get the benefit. Simple.
You also get a credit to get NEXUS almost free to avoid almost all airport queues. You will no longer wait at all at security checkpoints and customs in airports in Canada and the USA, but you’ll also go through the process itself faster as a trusted traveler. This is one of the savviest things a traveler can get; you won’t believe how amazing it is and how you should’ve gotten it earlier.
Finally, you’ll also get preferred pricing (discounts) on flights you book with your points on Air Canada. If you’ve followed us even slightly, you know you should really use your points on the 40+ Aeroplan partner airlines anyway (to get more value), so it’s not the best benefit, but it’s better than no discount at all if you do choose to use your points on Air Canada itself!
Travel insurance
The TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card has all the main types of travel insurance, so I won’t name them all.
The medical travel insurance is very good, with 21 days of coverage (for those aged 64 and under).
The flight delay insurance is a must for all flights, and I’ve made many successful and profitable claims with this specifc card’s coverage.
Earn rates highlights
Earn rates are way less important than just about everyone thinks they are, at least if you do travel rewards the right way, with the huge welcome bonuses.
But the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card does have one of the best multiplier earn rates for Air Canada expenses, with 1.5 pts/$ (≈ 2.25%) and a decent base earn rate on all non-bonused categories, with 1 pt/$ (≈ 1.5%).
Expiration
You have no time limit to use your points even if you close the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card, just like with almost every travel rewards currency (contrary to the very common myth).
Your Aeroplan points are in your Aeroplan account. They have nothing to do with TD once they’re earned.
