The guaranteed simple minimum net profit for rent, property tax, and income tax payments via the awesome Chexy tool is dropping from 2.25% to 1.25% and requires a new card application. It’s because of a change announced on the credit card that offers the best rate. Honestly, this shouldn’t change anything IF you want to maximize your travel rewards.
You should always use a credit card on which you’re unlocking a huge welcome bonus (10% back and more), like for literally all your purchases (it really is that simple). Or at least a card for lucrative points if you want to travel in luxurious business class.
But if you use the Scotia Momentum Visa Infinite+ Card, you shouldn’t anymore (soon). Flytrippers helps you travel for less with its free newsletter specifically about travel rewards, its ranking of the best current offers, and its infographic summarizing all the basics.
Here are the details of the Scotia Momentum earn rate change on Chexy.
What’s changing?
The Scotia Momentum Visa Infinite+ Card currently earns 4% cash back on payments made via Chexy, which is much less than what you can get so easily by getting the right cards (next section).
Starting October 22, 2026, the card’s earn rate is going to go from 4% to 1% for rent, property tax, and income tax payments (no change to the other categories, apparently).
With Chexy‘s 1.75% fee, obviously this card is no longer an option.
So the guaranteed minimum net profit goes from 2.25% to just 1.25% and requires getting a new credit card: the TD Cash Back Visa Infinite Card.
It earns 3% on all payments made via Chexy (up to $15,000 annually), for a 1.25% profit (it’s actually 1.3025% since you also earn on the Chexy fee).
This seems small, but it’s still an easy profit without any effort. On a $1200 monthly rent, that’s $188 for free easily in a year. It’s 4 days of all-expenses-paid travel in many affordable countries.
The card also has literally the best welcome bonus of any cash back card in Canada: $350. That’s incredibly less than the $755 you can get even if you stick to simple fixed value points redeemable for any trip booked on any website with the Scotiabank Gold Amex Card… because cash back sucks.
(Friends who like free travel don’t let friends earn cash back!)
The 3 other Scotiabank Momentum cards are also seeing their earn rates go down for these categories, but you really shouldn’t be using those anyway.
Don’t act impulsively and don’t close your Scotia Momentum Visa Infinite+ Card right away; always wait for the card renewal.
But it could even still be worth getting for your September and October rent if you hurry, considering the welcome bonus of 15% back on $2000… That gives you 13.51% back on $2000 in rent.
But you’re so much better off getting welcome bonuses that give you more, like the record offer on the Marriott Bonvoy Amex Card (or the Marriott Bonvoy Business Amex Card if you already have it) for 15 free nights, or the new record offer on the RBC Avion Visa Infinite Card for 25 hours in the best business class in the world.
Which cards are so much better to use?
“Which is the best card to use for XXXXX?” is a question we get asked every day, and the answer is so simple and always the same, no matter the purchase: a card on which you’re unlocking a huge welcome bonus!
Literally always. It’s so easy to maximize your earnings. Bonuses give you 10% back (and often more).
That’s what we’ve been doing ourselves for 15+ years and why we earn so many rewards so easily, along with having tons of card benefits… and especially a great credit score of 800+ (contrary to the very widespread and very wrong myth).
Here are the return rates available with the best current welcome bonuses.

And if you don’t want to maximize your earnings and you want to ignore welcome bonuses, rewards of the more lucrative type can be way more profitable than the TD Cash Back Visa Infinite Card‘s new top return of 1.3025%!
That’s because their value is much higher if you redeem them well, for luxurious lie-flat pod seats in business class. My girlfriend and I are flying to Europe in business class again very soon, and I got 5¢/pt in value for my Aeroplan points!!! As I did for most of my 9 business class flights last year, and my 4 additional ones this spring.
Getting 5¢/pt in value means that even earning just 1 Aeroplan point per $ is 5% back. That’s way more than the 3% cash back option.
Here are the earn rates for points of the more lucrative type.
