Flytrippers cofounder |
The most recent round of new welcome bonus offers includes an increase on the best offer for simple points, and most importantly, increases on many offers for lucrative points (to travel in business class). Speaking of, I’ll be talking more about this after once again flying luxuriously across the Atlantic this weekend myself.
But you have time for those offers. I want to repeat that what’s urgent is getting the record-high deal on the only card that ALL Canadian travelers should have: the Marriott Bonvoy Amex Card (or, if you already have it, the Marriott Bonvoy Business Amex Card that does not require having an incorporated business).
Those end September 22 and are usually there just once per year; don’t miss them! Flytrippers helps you travel for less with its free newsletter specifically about travel rewards, its ranking of the best current offers, and its infographic summarizing all the basics.
Here are the new offers from the past few weeks.
TD
The 5 new TD offers from September 1st are both increased bonuses (on 3 good cards) and decreased bonuses (on 2 cards you should avoid anyway).

The TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite Card was already the best deal for simple points (fixed value for any travel expense) and was already a no-brainer to get if you haven’t had it in the past 12 months… after getting the Marriott deals.

TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card: Increase
The TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card is one of the best cards to get free checked bags on Air Canada for you and 8 travel companions, as well as lucrative points.
The amount of points you’ll get by unlocking the welcome bonus is the low guaranteed fixed price for flights between Montreal and some European destinations, as I booked last summer and again for this weekend.
New offer: Bonus increase; from 40,000 to 50,000 points. It’s the highest seen on this card in a few years (the last increases were to 45,000 points).

TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege Card: Increase
The TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege Card is TD’s version of premium-level Aeroplan cards, with lounge access and travel benefits… but with a high minimum income requirement (unlike the Amex version of the premium card).
If you redeem for luxurious business class, it’s better than the previous one because the extra points more than make up for the higher fee. But if you redeem for economy class, you’re better off with the other (assuming you don’t need the lounge access benefit).
New offer: Bonus increase; from 85,000 to 100,000 points. And here too, it’s the highest seen in a while.
Here are the details of the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege Card‘s welcome bonus:
- ≈ $752 in free travel by unlocking the welcome bonus
- ≈ $1950 in rewards
- $599 fee
- The fee is deducted twice (the offer includes a renewal bonus)

- $24,000 minimum spending requirement
- $24,000 to spend in a maximum of 12 months
- Including $12,000 within 180 days
- We have tips to meet spending requirements
- Rewards of the more lucrative type (Aeroplan points)
- Value is extremely variable (and unlimited)
- Our conservative Flytrippers Valuation is ≈ 1.5¢/pt
- Can easily be worth 2X more for business class
- Redeemable for specific flights only (to get ≈ 1.5¢/pt)
- Or for any Air Canada flight at ≈ 1.1¢/pt
- Excellent increased offer (end date not disclosed)
- The best offer of the year on this card
- One of the best offers to get more valuable points right now
TD Rewards Visa Card: Decrease
The TD Rewards Visa Card is a no-annual-fee card, so you shouldn’t waste your time with it.
New offer: Bonus decrease; from 30,310 to 15,152 points. Not that the previous one was more worthwhile anyway (even if it was double the new one).
Here are the details of the TD Rewards Visa Card‘s welcome bonus:
- $83 in free travel by unlocking the welcome bonus
- $83 in rewards
- $0 fee
- 16.6% back on $500 in spending
- $83 value divided by
- $500 minimum spending requirement
- $500 to spend in a maximum of 90 days
- Rewards of the more simple type (TD Rewards points)

TD Cash Back Visa Card: Decrease
The TD Cash Back Visa Card is a no-annual-fee card AND a cashback card, meaning you should doubly stay away.
New offer: Bonus decrease; from $115 cash back to $0 cash back. Indeed, there’s actually no welcome bonus at all now.

RBC Avion Visa Infinite Card: Increase
The RBC Avion Visa Infinite Card is one of the best cards for travel rewards pros, because you can get its bonus even if you already have the card (the only restriction is that you always need to wait 90 days since your last RBC card approval).
The bonus gives you 25-hour business class flights (as I did this spring), and you can get that 4x per year! That’s crazy. It’s a must-have during this offer, but you’re better off getting 1 of the 2 Marriott deals first (this one here lasts until late November).
New offer: Bonus increase; from 55,000 to 70,000 points. It’s the return of the highest ever seen on this card.
Here are the details of the RBC Avion Visa Infinite Card‘s welcome bonus:
- ≈ $885 in free travel by unlocking the welcome bonus
- ≈ $1125 in rewards
- $120 fee
- The fee is deducted twice (the offer includes a renewal bonus)

- The best offer ever seen on this card
- The points are harder to maximize than Aeroplan
RBC Avion Visa Infinite Privilege Card: Increase
The RBC Avion Visa Infinite Privilege Card is the premium version, with 6 free passes for VIP airport lounges. It gives you a lot more points, but the fee is obviously higher.
If you redeem for luxurious business class, it’s better than the previous one because the extra points more than make up for the higher fee. But if you redeem for economy class, you’re better off with the other (assuming you don’t need the lounge passes).
New offer: Bonus increase; from 70,000 to 100,000 points. It’s also the return of the best offer seen on this card.
Here are the details of the RBC Avion Visa Infinite Privilege Card‘s welcome bonus:
- ≈ $796 in free travel by unlocking the welcome bonus

Neo World Elite Mastercard: Increase
The Neo World Elite Mastercard is a very good cashback card, assuming you prefer lower-value cashback… and don’t want to maximize by focusing on welcome bonuses.
At least, it is one of the cards that earns 5% at grocery stores (which includes gift cards to other retailers).
New offer: Bonus increase; from $0 to $100. It’s an offer exclusively available with partner links like ours (not available if you go to the Neo website directly; we appreciate it if you always use our links for any card to support us at absolutely no cost to you).

Scotiabank Passport Visa Infinite + Card: Decrease
The Scotiabank Passport Visa Infinite + Card is one of the best overall Canadian cards, with 6% back at Sobeys/Safeway/Thrifty Foods/IGA and 5% at other grocery stores (including gift cards to other retailers).
The points are extremely simple (redeemable for any travel expense booked on any website), and it’s one of the rare cards that doesn’t charge the 2.5% foreign transaction fee (not that important if you maximize by always being in the process of unlocking bonuses).
New offer: Bonus decrease; from 40,000 to 25,000 points. It’s a great card… but the offer is sooooo low.
